Full Moon Surprise

I recently arrived at a dawn photography session at Crissy Field beach and got a big surprise - the full moon was setting behind the Golden Gate Bridge! I photographed quickly to take advantage of the fantastic setting in the 20 minutes the moon was still visible.

What a wonderful backdrop for a pet session!

Ginger, a Cocker Spaniel mix, was my willing subject. Here the sky still has colors from the pre-dawn twilight.

As the sun came up brightening the sky and the moon moved lower behind the bridge, I had Ginger run across the beach.

Before the moon moved behind the bridge tower out of sight I got this action shot of Ginger jumping for the ball.

This was just random awesome luck that I happened to be at the right place at the right time, but I’ve since found out that the full moon often sets as the sun is rising making for some spectacular dawn photo session potential.
